The bay of Isola Rossa has been chosen as the venue for the 2024 Italian National Championships in shortboard and bodyboard, hosted by the Italian Surfing, Water Skiing, and Wakeboarding Federation.
Are you ready for a September to remember? The bay of La Marinedda is once again set to become the stage for Italian and international surfing, hosting the twentieth edition of Italy’s longest-running surf contest, the Marinedda Surf Open. But this year, there’s something extra special: for the first time, the MarineddaBay Open will be part of the official championship of the FISSW – Italian Surfing, Water Skiing, and Wakeboarding Federation, a decisive event to crown the Italian champions in shortboard and bodyboard!
The waiting period begins on 15 September, and the anticipation is already high. The best surfers, both Italian and international, are fine-tuning their boards to tackle the powerful waves of the Sardinian North Shore. Imagine the adrenaline: 64 athletes ready to battle it out in one of Sardinia’s most spectacular bays, with 32 male and 16 female surfers competing in shortboard, and 8 athletes in each category of bodyboard. Registrations are open, but they close as soon as the green light is given!
We are delighted that Hotel Marinedda is among the local businesses that have made all this possible: The Marinedda Bay Open – 2024 National Shortboard and Bodyboard Championship is organised under the patronage of the Municipality of Trinità d’Agultu and the FISSW – Italian Surfing, Water Skiing, and Wakeboarding Federation, and is supported by Costa Rossa Sardinia and other businesses from our region.
This weekly event, held every Tuesday evening throughout the summer, is an opportunity to enjoy a complete cultural experience, discovering the tradition, art, and hospitality of Gallura. The heart of the event is the evening market along Via Roma, which transforms into a lively open-air market. Here you will find many artisanal products, from traditional Aggius carpets to unique jewellery made with local materials. You can discover wooden and inlaid handicrafts, cork works, scented candles, genuine jams, and typical costumes. You can also admire collections of swimwear and beach towels inspired by the designs and colours of traditional carpets.
For the occasion, the village also hosts performances and itinerant shows, book presentations, and workshops for children. The experience in Aggius would not be complete without tasting the culinary delights of Gallura. During Tuesday in the Village, you can participate in food and wine tours in collaboration with local wineries and taste specialities such as “li Frisjoli”, Carnival fritters, “suppa cuata”, Gallura soup, and “li bruglioni”, traditional ravioli.
The village also offers a journey into culture and history. Aggius, awarded the Orange Flag by the Italian Touring Club, is nestled among majestic granite rocks and cork forests. This picturesque village is known for its intertwined alleys, hidden squares, ancient churches, and museums that tell an ancient story.
While strolling through the granite alleys, you can discover murals and artworks by Sardinian artists like Simone Sanna and Josephine Sassu. Everything began with Maria Lai’s stay in Aggius. The project AAAperto has now transformed Aggius into an open-air museum, with contributions from famous artists such as Tellas, Giovanni Campus, Rosanna Rossi, Zaza Calzia, and many others. The village’s museums, including the MEOC and the Museum of Banditry, offer a fascinating journey into the past: the MEOC, one of the largest ethnographic museums on the island, hosts a “traditional house” and collections of costumes and choral songs, while the Museum of Banditry recounts the compelling history of local banditry, celebrated in the novel “Il Muto di Gallura” and in the film by Matteo Fresi.

Panoramic walks
For trekking enthusiasts, the north coast of Sardinia offers a wide choice of scenic routes that will lead you through breathtaking landscapes. Here are some trails we suggest:
From Isola Rossa to Li Feruli Beach
This route begins from the picturesque fishing village of Isola Rossa and takes you along the coast to Li Feruli Beach, which borders the municipality of Badesi. Admire the red cliffs overlooking the crystal-clear sea through the coves of Li Bicchi Russi cliff, La Spiaggi di Li Puzzi, L’Oltu di Li Canni, and then enjoy a relaxing break on Li Feruli Beach.
Punta Li Canneddi trail
Starting from La Marinedda beach, you can follow this trail leading to Punta Li Canneddi, so named for its multitude of shapes and sculptures of pink granite that, with their slender form, resemble reeds. Along the path, you can admire the stunning view of the coast, with its red rocks and turquoise waters. Once you reach the point, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking panorama of Cala Canneddi bay.
The Hermit’s path
This route will take you to discover the most characteristic beaches of the northwest coast of the island, among fascinating rock formations and hidden coves. Among the most loved trails, the Hermit’s path stands out, a long two-hour walk that begins from the beautiful beach of Li Cossi and then arrives at Tinnari. Tinnari beach is characterized by a double arch shape that joins in the center thanks to a group of rocks and overlooks a sea with incredible colors.
Located near Isola Rossa, this beach offers a tranquil environment and an untouched natural landscape. Surrounded by sandy dunes and Mediterranean scrub, it’s a true paradise for nature lovers and those seeking breathtaking views.
This picturesque beach is situated between Isola Rossa and Badesi, characterized by a long stretch of white sand and turquoise waters. Its natural beauty and the tranquility that surrounds it make it an ideal destination for a relaxing day. Along this beautiful beach is the Hotel Marinedda Thalasso & SPA, offering a variety of services and comforts. With its privileged position in front of the beach, it allows guests to fully enjoy the crescent of white sand and the turquoise sea.
With its approximately 8 kilometers of golden sand, Badesi beach is one of the longest in the area. The expansive shoreline provides enough space to find a quiet spot even during the busiest periods. The clear waters and the panoramic view of the Gulf of Asinara make it a must-visit destination.
Located between Badesi and Valledoria, it is the main beach of Badesi, stretching a good 8 km along the Resort & SPA Le Dune. This beach is characterized by sandy dunes and a vast expanse of fine sand. It is surrounded by rich vegetation and offers a breathtaking natural scenery.
Another stunning beach between Badesi and Valledoria, famous for its dunes and clear, fine sand. This beach is a true paradise for nature lovers, offering not only the opportunity to practice water sports like surfing and windsurfing, but also to enjoy long romantic walks along the shore.
With its beaches, Northern Sardinia is a haven for relaxation lovers, but not only. For fishing enthusiasts, adventures start early because, as they say, the early bird catches the worm.
Holidaymakers and locals, beginners or experienced fishermen: what matters in a fishing trip is the right company. To spend a day in the spirit of sport, but also to admire the coast from a privileged perspective and, if lucky, to spot specimens of fin whales and dolphins. Beautiful memories that will stay in everyone’s mind.
Adventures in contact with nature, along stretches of pristine sea rich in fish in the Gulf of Asinara. Starting from Isola Rossa, a small fishing village in the heart of the Red Coast, named after the small island it overlooks. From the port of the village, the fisherman of Poseidon Fishing set off: prestigious boats, the best equipment and the assistance of an experienced and professional crew to handle every type of catch.
Among the techniques that offer the greatest thrills is offshore trolling, to be carried out in the deeper waters between the Gulf of Asinara and the Strait of Bonifacio, in search of trophy prey: tunas, longfin tunas, spearfish, and dolphin fish. More refined is the coastal trolling, which can offer great satisfaction with catches like amberjacks, snappers, barracudas, little tunny, and tunas. The currents between Northern Sardinia and the Strait of Bonifacio provide the perfect setting for practicing vertical jigging, a technique reserved for true sports enthusiasts, and day and night drifting for catching giant tunas, swordfish, and large amberjacks.
